Consignment Program
This program is for the horse that is for sale, whose owner may not have the resources (time, space, etc) to continue to exercise or train the horse.
Horses should be of the 'sport horse' type such as hunter, dressage, jumper, or 'all purpose family' type (4H, Pony Club, local open show type, english or western) or recreation type such as trail or an endurance / competitive trail prospect.
With this program we hope to build a reputation of trust with BUYERS, that we offer HONEST representations of horses we advertise for sale in safety, usability, skill level, over all 'type', etc. therefore we do not work with horses that have any dangerous vices or serious health or lameness issues.
Depending on the horse there may be a minimum required stay; young green horses may be required to stay up to 3 months to gain marketable skills, while older horses simply needing exercising or tuning up may need only 1 month.
During the horses stay here a web page with a photo and video presentation will be made, along with an honest written description and evaluation of the horse's physical traits, skills and disposition. Horses kept here for extended periods can be hauled out to shows, trails or other such events for experience. This services includes my participation in presenting the horse to prospective buyers and being present during any pre-purchase vet/farrier exams. Horses MUST be evaluated to participate in this program - we will not work with horses who have dangerous vices / dispositions as we are marketing to family, amateur, novice and lower level riders/owners.
Why have I started this program? Quite honestly, I have looked at about a dozen horses for purchase in the last year. Horses of various ages, skill levels and in a price range averaging $1,500 - $3,500, but even horses up to $8,000. I have been VERY disappointed at the presentation of the horse in advertisement and in presentation of the horse in the flesh! I have driven up to 12 hours to see a horse that I had THOUGH I asked enough questions about only to find the horse no where NEAR what the seller described. What has been even worse is a horse on a property with no suitable place to show it (no arena, no flat land to do a pre purchase exam, barb wire fenced in areas, no lights, muddy conditions, etc) or a seller who doesn't understand the process of buyer screening the horse and is not skilled or willing to 'show' the horse (ride it, lunge it, jog it for a pre-purchase exam, etc).
I do not want to become a 'horse trader' or 'horse selling mill'. This is why I intend to screen the horses I accept into this program, and why I will only accept a limited number of horses at any given time. I want to develop a good reputation that the horses for sale here are 'what they are' and that buyer and seller have a good experience. I hope that by offering this service I can provide the buyer and seller a facility that is very workman like. I want to prepare a horse so I know what it is capable of doing at the time of advertising, so it behaves properly for a pre-purchase exam. I want to bridge the gap between how the buyer represents the horse to the market, and what the seller truly desires in a horse, and to just make the EXPERIENCE of horse shopping a bit more pleasant instead of a dreaded chore.

- If the horse does not sell during it's stay here but has been shown to potential buyers, a $20.00 per 'appointment with buyers' fee will be charged when the horse leaves. If your horse does not sell but leaves Barnes Paddock, your web site video/photo presentation will stay on the internet for 3 months for your use as a marketing tool.
- If the horse sells, the seller/owner will be charged either 10% of horses selling price, or $20.00 per 'appointment with potential buyer' (which ever is higher). * seller MUST list horse in at least two of the services below and/or the local paper or other trade journals
Why is your program set up in an ala carte way (not all 'inclusive' pricing) like other training facilities?
Good question! This gives the participating, local owner a chance to minimize their expenses by cleaning their own stall, bringing their own feed, or actually DOING some of the exercising of the horse, if they desire!
